Decision-Making Considerations for Heartworm Management in Shelter Dogs

This tool was developed as a way to incorporate evidence-based medical, behavioral, and operational perspectives into canine heartworm disease management policies and protocols for shelter populations.

Some suggested ways to use this tool include when:

  • Developing a new protocol
  • Reviewing an existing protocol
  • Applying pet care guidelines to shelters
  • Creating MOU’s with partnering organizations
